The Sahara

Sahara Hotel And Casino

The Sahara Hotel and Casino can be found on the Las Vegas Strip. It is a hotel with a Moroccan theme and over 1,700 rooms as well as large casino floor measuring over 80,000 sq ft.

The Las Vegas Monorail makes it's last stop at the Sahara hotel so it is a little out of the way. However just jump on the Monorail and you can be in the center of the Strip action in a couple of minutes.

History

The Sahara first opened in 1952, at the time it was the 6th resort on the Strip. It stood out from some of the other casinos by hosting a very popular jazz band who played late in to the night. In 1963 they added a new 20-story tower to accommodate the growing demand for rooms in Vegas. It has been owned by the Bennett Family Trust since Bill Bennett passed away in 2002.

Another taller tower was added to the hotel in 1996 further increasing the guest capacity and in 1999 a roller coaster was added that runs around the outside of the main building.

"I have been to the Sahara hotel and casino a few times now. To begin with I was attracted by the low price rooms but after a couple of good stays at the hotel I can say I really like the atmosphere there. The building itself looks a little worn in places but it is quite old now. The staff are generally helpful and friendly and the rooms are large and well kept. I tell all my pals to stay there if they want to save a few bucks for the gaming tables."

"We stayed in the Tangiers Tower when we went to the Sahara and were pleased with the rooms. The hotel is well priced and clean. You are a fair walk from some of the main attractions on the Strip but the monorail is right there if you do not want to walk. We were given a free pass for the monorail when we checked in. If you stay there, ask at reception and they may have more passes. A good way to save a little money. The Stratosphere is only a few steps up the road and their tower is a must see. Also just across the street there is an International House Of Pancakes, one of my favourite places to eat!"
