The Bellagio

The Bellagio hotel is located on the Las Vegas Strip and is owned by MGM Mirage. Inspired by the Lake Como resort of Bellagio in Italy, Bellagio is famed for its elegance. One of its most notable features is an 8 ac (32,000 m²) artificial lake between the building and the Strip.

The fountain shows on the lake are a major free attraction. The Fountains were built by a company called Wet Design, who specialise in creating intricate water shows. The design incorporates an array of underwater pipes with over 1,000 nozzles that makes it possible to stage fountain displays coordinated with over 4,000 lights and music.

Inside Bellagio, Dale Chihuly's Fiori di Como, composed of over 2,000 hand-blown glass flowers, covers 2,000 square feet (610 m²) of the lobby ceiling. The hotel also contains the Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. Bellagio was conceived by Steve Wynn and built by his company, Mirage Resorts, Inc. following the purchase and demolition of the legendary Dunes hotel and casino in 1993. Bellagio was designed by Marnell Corrao Associates and Jon Jerde. The Bellagio hotel is home to Cirque du Soleil's production of "O", the second permanent production show for the troupe.The Bellagio currently has approximately 10,000 employees.

History

When it opened on October 15, 1998, it was the most expensive hotel ever built, having cost over $1.6 billion. In 2000 it became a MGM Mirage property when Mirage Resorts merged with MGM Grand Inc. to create MGM MIRAGE. The Bellagio hotel has become a very popular location for Vegas weddings, this is in part due to the hotel's reputation for elegance.

"Stay here. There is so much excitement at this hotel. I loved walking out at night and seeing the fantastic water display. Its packed with people just relaxing and watching. The only complaint is that it is expensive. But if you only make it to Vegas rarely (like me), this is the place to be!"

"We just returned from vegas and stayed at the B for the first time. We thought everything about the hotel was first class. We had a room (Lakefront overlooking the water show) that was outstanding. The staff were courteous and efficient. Went to Prime Restaurant and had one of the best meals ever. The pool is spectacular and the hotel attracts very few kids which works for us. I wasn't impressed with the casino (attitude, fun and service left a little to be desired). But I am not one looking for comps, so I could gamble anywhere. If you are renting a car, choose dollar and you can return it right at the hotel and save yourself time at the airport. My wife loved the shopping at the hotel and the location is perfect for the strip. We are going back in May and will definitely stay at the Bellagio."
